About Linda

A Seattle-area garden designer, writer and humorist, Linda is known for her passion for European gardens. Linda also loves travel, food, baseball and her Vespa scooter, and is especially thrilled when she can combine one or more of these interests with work.

Linda gardens on a modest-sized suburban lot in north Kirkland (a cold USDA zone 7 garden) and a 2-acre weekend garden in Kingston ("The Farm," we call it, because it was formerly an organic honey bee farm). The Kirkland garden features three main rooms: the plum border, the potager and the Arts and Crafts-inspired backyard living room.

In addition to her garden design work, Linda is the contributing garden editor for Seattle Homes and Lifestyles, the weekly garden columnist for the Ballard News-Tribune and the editor of Garden Notes, the newsletter of the Northwest Horticultural Society. She was the original program manager for Great Plant Picks, the plant awards program administered by the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden, and has a long history with that garden.

Linda is married to Bruce Forstall, a software engineer who moonlights as the occasional horticultural photographer and garden tourist. They have a fat tomcat, Buster, for a roommate.
